Filipino POWs from Manila and the provinces of Rizal, Bulacan, Pampanga, Zambales, Tarlac, Cavite, Batangas and Laguna will be released at Capas from June 28 to July 5. "Those from other provinces will be released as soon as peace and order has been established in those places." Schools are getting renamed: Jefferson Elementary to "Diego Silang" — an Ilocano patriot who took an active part in the early Ilocos revolts; Washington Elementary to "Lapu-Lapu" — the native Cebu chieftain who slew Magellan in Mactan; Lincoln Elementary to "Lopez Jaena" — another Filipino patriot "who labored with Rizal"; H.A. Bordner to "Francisco Dagohoy" — the Bohol patriot who took part in the war of liberation against Spain some 300 years ago. At least they used Filipino names this time, even if they all fought against the Spanish. The Spaniards, of course, aren't too pleased. |
