"Air raids over Germany ineffective ... Nazi military machine cannot be destroyed from air" — we'll settle for heavy damage. Connor has a good story about a fellow named McIlvain who found himself back here as an evacuee after being kicked out by the British as persona non grata. He found his calling in the cold, early days of Santo Tomas. He'd wake up at 0330 and have a roaring cauldron of fire going by 0400, eventually providing warmth and 600 to 800 cups of hot water for the internees. He did it all by himself, finding the lumber and doing the labor, never charging for the service despite being penniless. |
